About Us

Who are 'The Gang'?

As of the moment, the group consists of 5 friends, although more enthusiasts are looking to lend a helping hand every week. Everyone who is helping or offering to help all go to the Coopers' Company and Coborn School.

Jamie Woods - one of the starters of the group, and the IT whiz who set up this Blog and our WaterAid account, Jamie is studying  Design and Technology, Further Maths, German and Physics and is our primary tech guy, training statistician and design and ideas man. HQ is currently situated in his bedroom.

Tom Blake - another one of the founders of 'the WaterCycle' and self-proclaimed 'King of the Hill', Tom is currently studying Chemistry, Economics, English Literature, Further Maths and Physics and will be taking responsibility at the front of the group in France and training, as well as acting as our 'first aider'

Daniel Puddefoot - Puddy was one of the first to show keen interest in the event and like Jamie and Tom is the only member to have been on all training events thus far. Though his sense of direction is shocking, he has helped in desigining our toughest route to Epping and it was through him that we secured our first amount of sponsorship.

George Underwood - George initiated contact with WaterAid and is now acting as the chief link to the organisation and has managed to secure us leaflets and posters for the events. George is so far only able to attend every otehr training session due to a clash with football but will soon switch priorities we hope

Stephen Walters - despite reputedly having avoided exercise for years, Steve showed his worth during the Southend trip this February, which stretched even the sportier participants. Again Steve is mixing between bike rides one weekend and work the other though he is putting in a few after school sessions to compensate

Joe Hasted - Joe is the most recent addition to the group and having been chosen to fill the void left by Tom Hindson he is looking to muck in with the sponsorship raising and even organising.
Following recent changes to the dates of travel, Joe will no longer be travelling to France since he will be touring Oceania with the school rugby team.

Tom Hindson - a late joiner to the group, Tom shocked us all with his incredible improvement between sessions 2 and 3, proving his determination and drive.  Tom is currently assisting Jamie and Tom B with the event micromanagement, though, due to a trip to Africa this summer, he will not be able to participate in the ride itself. He claims he will continue training, though.

Tim Rogers- much credit must go to Tim who helped to set up the Blog and helped on some of the more techincal ICT issues. Thanks once again Tim

Quick History

Just before Christmas 2009, we were in discussion regarding our upcoming summer holidays and the idea was suggested to take some sort of bike trip in Europe, as a way of getting some sun, sea and adventure all in one. So, the research into possibilities went ahead and before long it became clear that the trip could become so much more than a simple lads' holiday, and the concept of a sponsored charity event was formed, which would still encompass the virtues of the biking holiday.
Before long, we had decided to go ahead with the idea, chosen our cause and had laid down the initial groundwork for the trip. In the following weeks the movement was snowballing, picking up pace as we pushed forward, setting up this Blog and our WaterAid account (which there is a link to on the right hand side) amongst many other less material aspects of the event's organisation. However, since this is the first large-scale charity event any of us have been directly involved in, and is easily the greatest responsibility we have undertaken in terms of organisation and administration, we are looking for all kinds of support and are open to any new ideas and suggestions you could present to us via the contact details found on the right hand side of the page.
On the 9th of March, a vote was passed within the group to change the event title from 'the Big Bike' to it's current name, 'the WaterCycle'.
