Why WaterAid?

"WaterAid's vision is of a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation." 

WaterAid and its partners use practical solutions to provide safe water, effective sanitation and hygiene education to the world's poorest people. It is this ideal of the provision of the most basic necessities of a healthy life that has inspired us to support WaterAid and help to raise money for them over the course of the next few months, culminating in our charity ride. 

Naturally, there are many other charities that do similar work to WaterAid, and our time would be just as well spent raising money for organisations such as Oxfam and Christian Aid. However, we feel that WaterAid's work takes a minor precedence over other developmental charities, as they are focused on raising every single man, woman and child up to a stage where they are able to drink, wash, cook and clean without fear or risk of it causing disease and death. It is only when this has been achieved, we believe, that it becomes paramount to invest in further measures such as education and health systems. To put this bluntly, we think that you need to stop people dying needlessly before educating them and, as such, WaterAid is the organisation which we feel needs us, the western public, as firm supporters at present.
